Six Chinese Nationals Granted Bail After Unlawful Entry Into Protected Mine In Chiredzi

Six Chinese nationals who unlawfully entered a protected mining site and constructed structures without authorisation were yesterday granted bail of US$200 each by Magistrate Tendai Mutamba.

The suspects, Huang Dongqiang, Liang Xiaoan, Li Anming, Huang Honguei, Chen Qinbo, and Yuan Feng, were arrested last Thursday for trespassing on Oneiric Mine, located at Ndali in Chiredzi, and erecting unauthorised structures.

They are jointly charged alongside Nyasha Chauke. The charge relates to unlawfully refusing to vacate the mine, which is registered under Special Grant Number 7809, without lawful justification.

The arrests were carried out by detectives from the Chiredzi Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Minerals, Flora and Fauna Unit (MFFU).

It is alleged that the Chinese nationals, who reside at Mupinga Business Centre, conspired with Chauke to gain unlawful access to the mine.

Once on the premises, they began constructing their own structures without the consent of the rightful owners.

The mine owners became aware of the illegal developments on 21 April 2025 and formally instructed the individuals to cease construction activities on 7 May 2025.

Despite the warning, the construction continued, prompting the owners to lodge a police report.

CID officers arrested the group after they failed to produce any documentation granting them the legal right to conduct activities on the private mining site.
