Gokwe Man Sentenced To 25 Years For Axe Murder Of 4-Year-Old Daughter

A man from Gokwe, Midlands, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison by the Gokwe High Court circuit after he “accidentally” killed his 4-year-old daughter using an axe during a physical altercation with his wife.

The High Court heard that on he evening of February 19, 2025, at approximately 23:33 hours, the offender, Thomas Nyamadzawo, returned home and engaged in a dispute with his wife over an undisclosed matter.

As tensions escalated during the heated argument, Nyamadzawo armed himself with an axe and aimed a swing at his wife. However, he missed her and instead struck his daughter, who was being held in his wife’s arms.

The blow landed forcefully on the child’s forehead, causing severe injury. Fortunately, an intervening party was able to disarm Nyamadzawo and pull him away from the scene.

However, the child’s mother faced difficulties in securing transportation to take her injured daughter to the hospital. The young girl succumbed to her injuries before medical assistance could be obtained.
