The Meteorological Services Department, in collaboration with the Department of Civil Protection, has issued a weather advisory warning of cool, cloudy, and windy conditions expected from Wednesday, May 21 to Saturday, May 24, 2025.
Affected areas include Matabeleland South, Masvingo, Manicaland, and the southern parts of the Midlands, where drizzly and cold weather is forecast due to the arrival of south-easterly winds. These conditions may lead to an increase in respiratory illnesses such as colds, coughs, and fevers.
Authorities are urging people in these areas to:
- Dress warmly and keep warm, especially vulnerable groups like young children, the elderly, and those in poor health.
- Consult a certified health practitioner for advice on respiratory-related illnesses.
- If using a brazier (mbaura/imbaula) or fireplace for warmth, ensure proper ventilation to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.
The weather is expected to gradually improve from Sunday, May 25, as cloud cover clears and temperatures begin to rise.
For further updates, the Meteorological Services Department recommends following their official communication channels, including Twitter (@MSDZIM) and Facebook (Meteorological Services).
