ZACC Distances Itself From Highway Anti-smuggling Operation

The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) has distanced itself from a so-called anti-smuggling operation reportedly being carried out by people pretending to be its officials on major highways around the country.

In a statement released on 15 May 2025, ZACC made it clear that they’re not involved in any such operation.

They said these imposters are not only acting illegally, but are also scamming Zimbabweans out of their hard-earned money and damaging the reputation of genuine law enforcement agencies. The statement said:

It has come to the attention of the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) that there are individuals posing as officials from the Commission along the country’s major highways, claiming to be enforcing an anti-smuggling operation.

The Commission is not involved in any operation of this nature. These imposters are not only acting illegally but are also fleecing Zimbabweans of their hard-earned cash through extortion and tarnishing the reputation of legitimate law enforcement agencies.

ZACC warns these individuals to cease these activities immediately. Anyone found impersonating law officers will be arrested and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

The Commission also advises the public to be vigilant, demand identification, verify identity, not offer bribes, and report suspicious activity.

ZACC encouraged the public to get in touch for any further clarification through its spokesperson, Simiso Mlevu, who can be reached on +263 719 565 463 or via email at smlevu@zacc.co.zw.
