Late-Night Fire Destroys Magaba Workshops In Mbare

A fire tore through Mbare’s Magaba area late Friday night, destroying property worth thousands of dollars.

The blaze wiped out valuable tools and equipment, including grinders, fridges, drills, and plumbing supplies.

Speaking to ZBC News on Saturday, some SME traders said they lost everything in the fire.

Christopher Makopa, Chairperson of the Mukuvisi Manufacturing Traders Association, estimated the damage at around US$15,000. Said Makopa:

It is sad that traders were affected by the inferno which destroyed their property yesterday. I was called by the security informing me of the incident, and I want to thank the fire brigade for their swift reaction, because we could have lost a lot of property. According to our preliminary investigations, the property destroyed is approximately US$15,000.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) national spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, said the police are working closely with the Fire Brigade to determine the cause of the fire that destroyed property in Mbare.

This incident comes after a similar blaze in 2024, which gutted the Mbare Musika vegetable market and left thousands of traders facing major financial losses.
