Two men, aged 18 and 21 years respectively, were arrested by the police in the Zezani area of Matabeleland South Province after they allegedly robbed, raped, and murdered a 21-year-old woman.
The suspects reportedly stole the victim’s cellphone before taking turns to assault her. They then stabbed her with an okapi knife and concealed her body in a bushy area.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), via their X page, confirmed the horrific details of the crime, saying:
Police in Zezani, Matabeleland South Province, acted on a tip-off and arrested Quinton Sibanda, aged 18 and Kamuelo Moyo aged 20, in connection with a case of murder which occurred at a bush near in Dombolidenje Village.
The suspects allegedly attacked the victim, Marvelous Tlou, aged 21, before stealing her cellphone. They then allegedly took turns to sexually abuse the victim before strangling her and stabbing her with an okapi knife all over the body. Subsequently, they hid the body in the bush. The arrest led to the recovery of the stolen cellphone and the okapi knife.
In a separate case confirmed by the ZRP, an artisanal miner named Nicholas Matanda, aged 19, was arrested in connection with the murder of another artisanal miner, Tanaka Sithole, aged 26.
The incident occurred on 11 May 2025, after Sithole sustained a fatal stab wound to the armpit during an argument over the sharing of sadza on 9 May 2025 at Dollar Farm, Flamingo Turn-off, Shurugwi.
