Nine Dead In Two Separate Road Accidents In Mashonaland Central

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed that nine people were killed and 26 others injured in two separate road traffic accidents that occurred in Mashonaland Central Province on 12 and 13 May.

In the first incident, five people died and 18 were injured when a Hino Dutro truck carrying 35 passengers veered off the road and overturned along the Mvurwi-Kanyemba Road near Mahuwe. The accident occurred at around 5 PM on Monday, 12 May, at the 101-kilometre peg.

According to police, the truck was descending a steep slope and approaching a sharp curve when the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to overturn before landing back on its wheels.

In a separate accident on Tuesday morning, 13 May, at approximately 9.50 AM, four people were killed and eight injured when a Nissan NV350 kombi overturned at the 52-kilometre peg along the Harare-Mukumbura Road near Mazowe. The vehicle veered off the road and landed on its roof.

The bodies of the deceased were taken to Concession Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examinations, while the injured were admitted to the same hospital for treatment.

Police say further details will be released in due course.
