Tshabangu-Led CCC Sets Date For Elective Congress

The main faction of the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), led by Sengezo Tshabangu, is set to hold its elective congress in September this year.

The announcement was made in a statement by the faction’s spokesperson, Willias Madzimure. He said the CCC’s National Executive Committee (NEC) met on 11 May 2025 and made key recommendations to the National Council as part of preparations for the upcoming congress. Said Madzimure:

The key resolutions that were made include the elective congress that will be held in September 2025. The NEC resolved that branch, constituency and provincial congresses be convened promptly following the national council meeting, in full compliance with the party’s Constitution.

Madzimure added that the NEC had also established several subcommittees to ensure the congress is conducted in a smooth and democratic manner.

The CCC has faced ongoing internal divisions, particularly after Nelson Chamisa’s resignation in early 2024.

The party is now divided into three main factions. The first is the Chamisa-aligned faction, led by Jameson Timba and other loyalists, which is focused on re-engaging Nelson Chamisa and upholding his vision for the party.

The second is the faction led by Sengezo Tshabangu, who declared himself interim secretary-general and supports a return to the 2019 MDC Alliance structures.

The third faction is led by former MDC leader Welshman Ncube, who opposes both the Chamisa and Tshabangu camps and favours resolving the party’s internal disputes through legal channels.
