The Trabablas Interchange Construction Project is in its final stage and is set to officially open to traffic this May, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development has announced.
Located at the junction of two major highways linking Harare with surrounding provinces, the Trabablas Interchange was designed to reduce traffic congestion and improve road safety.
Construction of the interchange began in January 2022, with a budget of US$88 million.
The project includes a modern flyover, expanded lanes, and upgraded pedestrian walkways.
In a statement issued on Monday, 12 May, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development confirmed the completion timeline. It said:
The Trabablas Interchange Construction Project is almost complete. We’ll be opening it to traffic this May 2025.
The opening of the interchange is expected to reduce travel time and enhance economic activity by improving the movement of goods and services.
Originally known as Mbudzi Interchange, it was renamed Trabablas Interchange in honour of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s liberation war name.
Keep on the good work 👍
