“She Was Only Four”: Police Name Hungwe Bus Accident Victims

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has released the names of the five people who tragically lost their lives in a fatal road traffic accident involving a Hungwe bus at the Fairmile roundabout along the Harare–Bulawayo Road.

The crash, which occurred on 7 May 2025 at the 273-kilometre peg, claimed five lives and left 21 others injured after the bus failed to negotiate the roundabout and overturned.

In a statement issued on Sunday, 11 May, ZRP spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed that the deceased had been identified by their next of kin.

The victims have been named as: Kunashe Murewa (4), a young girl from Macheke, Marondera, Mercy Nhaka (48), of Tollwood, Kwekwe, Nyasha Enifa (30), from Murambinda, Julian Hlamini (20), of Adelaide Park, Senga, Gweru, and Beauty Tore (36), from Dangamvura, Mutare.

Commissioner Nyathi also confirmed that of the 21 passengers injured in the crash, 18 have since been treated and discharged.

Three victims remain in hospital at Gweru General, where they are said to be in stable condition.
