Bar Staff Held Hostage As US$4,300 Stolen In Brazen Daylight Robbery

Police are investigating an armed robbery that took place mid-morning on Sunday, 11 May 2025, at a bar situated at the corner of 13th Avenue and Robert Mugabe Way, Bulawayo.

In a statement, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said that at approximately 10 AM, three unidentified suspects stormed the premises while staff counted the day’s cash takings.

The assailants, believed to have been armed, held the employees hostage before fleeing with US$4,300 in cash. Said the ZRP:

The ZRP is investigating a case of armed robbery which occurred today at around 1000 hours at a local bar located at corner 13th Avenue and R Mugabe Way, Bulawayo.

Three suspects who are yet to be identified attacked the staff members as they were counting the daily cash takings and held them hostage. They then stole USD 4 300.00 cash and went away.

Police swiftly attended the scene after receiving the report and mobilized all the relevant sections who attended the scene within the shortest possible time. Unfortunately, the suspects had fled.

In a separate development, the ZRP has confirmed the arrest of several suspects linked to a spate of armed robberies involving machetes and other weapons.

These incidents occurred in Cowdray Park, Makokoba, Nkulumane and nearby suburbs.
