A Toyota Hilux GD6, stolen during a violent robbery in Botswana, has been recovered in Zimbabwe following a joint operation between the Botswana Police Service (BPS) and the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP).
The vehicle, valued at over P590,000, was stolen in the early hours of Wednesday, 1 May 2025, when three unidentified men robbed its owner at Matsiloje Village in Botswana. The suspects fled the scene with the vehicle, sparking an urgent cross-border investigation.
According to a statement released by the Botswana Police Service on Thursday, initial investigations suggested the vehicle may have crossed into neighbouring Zimbabwe. BPS quickly alerted the ZRP, and the two forces launched a coordinated manhunt.
Thanks to this rapid response and strong inter-agency cooperation, the stolen vehicle was located in Figtree, Zimbabwe.
While the suspects remain at large, both police forces are continuing efforts to track them down.
Assistant Commissioner Near Bagali, Public Relations Officer for the Botswana Police Service said:
Botswana Police Service would like to profoundly thank the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) for their unwavering commitment to combating cross-border and transnational organised crime.
This case has demonstrated the true spirit and testament of excellent bilateral relations between the two neighbours.
