Civil society activist Abigale Mupambi has questioned Youth Minister Tinomuda Machakaire’s recent remarks on the state of Zimbabwe’s public healthcare system, describing them as hypocritical.
Machakaire, posting on social media on Monday, said he was deeply affected after visiting a public health institution earlier that day.
He urged President Emmerson Mnangagwa to personally tour such facilities to witness their condition.
He also acknowledged that public complaints about the healthcare system reflect genuine challenges faced by many Zimbabweans.
In response, Mupambi, who serves as National Coordinator for the Civic Society and Churches Joint Forum (CSCJF), expressed surprise that a Cabinet Minister would appear unaware of the longstanding issues in public hospitals.
She questioned how someone in his position could be encountering these realities for the first time. Wrote Mupambi:
Hon Minister, Tino .Thank you for pretending to be sincere unless if you can prove me wrong on this one.
I feel like you want to play us reverse psychology! Wait a bit.! On behalf of the public, l have these fishy
questions for you !Are you implying that all this long as Cabinet you didn’t know of the realities at our health Institutions until such a time your relative was sick?
Does this mean by way of this public statement inviting H.E to visit public health Institutions in reality you can’t access him directly?
As a Minister yourself, is it not common cause that you engage directly with the Minister of Health!?
Or by way of this statement you want to jump the ship and side with the public at the last hour as if you were not part of this ship all along.
Is it not true that Cabinet sits every week and in that space you are invited to freely contribute, in any case what issues have you been discussing if health wasn’t a priority?
With these few questions, my brother do the right thing…just fasten your belt get to bussiness and bring us results instead of wanting to shift blame or pretend.
You are the eyes and ears of the President. I don’t understand how this may probably not make sense to you.
