ZESA Intensifies Load Shedding After Hwange Technical Fault

A technical fault at Hwange Power Station has led to a significant reduction in Zimbabwe’s electricity generation, prompting nationwide load shedding, ZESA Holdings has confirmed.

In a statement released on Sunday, the power utility said the unexpected fault at the country’s largest thermal power station has disrupted supply and forced the company to intensify load-shedding measures across all customer groups. The statement read:

ZESA Holdings would like to advise its valued stakeholders of a technical fault that occurred at Hwange Power Station, resulting in the reduction of available power supplies. This unforeseen incident has necessitated increased load shedding across all customer groups.

Efforts are underway to restore normal operations, with ZESA’s technical teams said to be working around the clock to resolve the issue.

The utility apologised for the inconvenience caused and assured the public that updates will be provided as progress is made.

Hwange Power Station, located in Matabeleland North Province, is a critical component of the national grid and has faced periodic challenges due to ageing infrastructure and maintenance backlogs.
