Black Teachers At Peterhouse Allege Unequal Treatment

Black teachers at the prestigious Peterhouse Boys’ School have raised concerns about alleged unequal treatment compared to their white colleagues, claiming that the latter receive preferential treatment from school authorities.

The black teachers are now calling on the government to intervene, describing the situation as blatant racism, citing the perceived superiority granted to their white counterparts.

One teacher alleged that, for example, a member of the accounting department (name withheld) is permitted to sell dairy products such as yoghurt, feta, cheese, and fresh cream on school premises, using the reprographics room to run her side business.

It is further claimed that the school’s printing staff member is being used to assist in this private venture, something black teachers say they are not allowed to do.

Another white teacher (name withheld) is said to sell products, including chicken and honey, on school grounds, again without objection, while black teachers report being denied similar opportunities. Said a black teacher:

Some school tours are handled by individual teachers, and not centrally by the school, which risks potential kickbacks. This is a luxury afforded to white senior members of staff.

Several black teachers are under scrutiny by one head of studies who is suspected to be tasked to remove black people to make way for foreign white teachers. Teachers are coming from the UK, Australia.

When contacted for comment, Peterhouse Boys’ School Rector Jon Trafford neither confirmed nor denied the allegations, saying the school does not disclose information that could compromise staff privacy. Said Trafford:

Consequently, we will not respond to the allegations raised by your questions. It would appear that your source of information has selectively distorted facts, and the allegations do not reflect reality on the ground.

The alleged asymmetry between the treatments of black and white staff members is untrue.

Further to your previous enquiry, Peterhouse has, over the years, been a strong advocate of diversity and has maintained abhorrence of racism.

While recognising your right to investigative journalism, objectivity in this case seems a little short of reality.
