No Incidents Reported As National Shutdown Begins

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has reported that the situation across the country remained peaceful on Tuesday, April 22, the first day of an indefinite national shutdown called by war veteran Blessed Geza.

Geza, who has been calling for President Emmerson Mnangagwa to resign, urged citizens to stay away from work and shut down economic activity in protest. However, by mid-morning, police said there had been no major incidents.

In a brief statement, the ZRP commended the public for their cooperation in maintaining peace and order. The statement reads:

The ZRP informs the public that the security situation in the country is peaceful. The public is commended for the smooth flow of traffic and cooperation with the police in maintaining law and order in the country.

On Monday morning, Geza called for a national shutdown to force Mnangagwa to step down, accusing him of incompetence and presiding over a corrupt administration.

In a strongly worded statement, Geza claimed that the looting of Zimbabwe’s resources by what he described as “zvigananda”, a term referring to corrupt elites, had reached alarming levels, leaving ordinary citizens to suffer the consequences. He said:

Looting at the levels that Mnangagwa and his Zvigananda are doing to our country is continuing each day they remain in office.

This has now reached an unprecedented level and is unforgivable and cannot be tolerated any longer.

Alarming cases of looting billions of dollars in our country are being covered up, and these thieves continue to enjoy Mnangagwa’s protection.

Mnangagwa, due to his severe mental illness, now thinks his position as president of Zimbabwe is now the same as a mafia or a cartel boss.

Each day that passes by, Mnangagwa and the Zviigananda are preoccupied with moving their looted billions of dollars to foreign countries. But progressive members of our security sector are quietly monitoring all their moves.

We definitely can never accept or tolerate this behavior from Emmerson Mnangagwa and these Zviigananda any day longer.

For instance, Mnangagwa and his criminal cartel abused Command Agriculture scandal to loot approximately 3 billion U.S. dollars.

GDI scandal to steal hundreds of millions of United States dollars in assets from the Zimbabwe Defence Forces.

Kuvimba mining house scandal to loot 1.9 billion U.S. dollars. Gold incentive scandal to loot more than 750 million U.S. dollars.

ZEC scandal to loot 800 million Rand. Chivayo OPC scandal to loot 548 million US dollars, Valley Seeds scandal to loot 191 million US dollars, Geo Pomona scandal to loot in excess of 162 million US dollars. These are just a few examples
