US$8,050 Stolen From Alcohol Delivery Truck In Mutare

On Wednesday, US$8,050 in cash was stolen from an alcohol delivery Hino truck in broad daylight at a popular drinking spot in Mutare.

The incident was confirmed by the Zimbabwe Republic Police’s (ZRP) Acting Spokesperson for Manicaland Province, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka.

Chinyoka said Lockeswar Reed Yarraballi, a financial analyst at Sahana Industries Limited, was seated in the delivery truck when the thieves struck. Yarraballi and the truck driver, Jacob Manyemhesa, had driven to Mutare the previous day to deliver whiskey. He said:

Mr Yarraballi and his driver, Mr Jacob Manyemhesa, stopped at Manyati Bar, where they parked in front of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development provincial offices.

When Mr Manyemhesa went to return empty beer bottles and buy sadza, an unknown car with four men pulled up behind the Hino truck.

One of the men knocked on Mr Yarraballi’s window, but he refused to open it. One of the men opened the driver’s side door, and grabbed a blue satchel containing the cash, before speeding off with his accomplices in the gateway car.

Chinyoka said Yarraballi was not injured in the incident. A report was filed at Mutare Central Police Station, and officers were dispatched to the scene, though no arrests have been made.
