Highlanders Pockets US$45,000 After Thrilling Match Against Scottland

Highlanders received US$45,000 in cash after more than 13,000 fans packed Barbourfields Stadium for their Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match against Scottland on Sunday.

Highlanders CEO Brian Moyo confirmed that a total of US$70,000 was raised from ticket sales, though the money was distributed among several stakeholders. The Bulawayo City Council, which owns the stadium, received US$12,000 from the match.

Moyo, however, did not disclose the amounts allocated to the PSL, the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA), the Sport and Recreation Commission (SRC), the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA), as well as private security, ticket checkers, cashiers, and the treasurer.

Sunday’s attendance was one of the highest in recent years at Barbourfields Stadium, underscoring Scottland’s growing popularity and influence in the domestic football scene.

Scottland’s recent home fixtures at Rufaro Stadium in Harare had only drawn crowds of 7,000 to 8,000.
