Dynamos and FC Platinum kickstarted the 2023 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season with victories over topflight returnees Hwange and premiership debutants Simba Bhora, respectively.
DeMbare beat Hwange 1-0 in a match played at Barbourfields Stadium on Saturday, 18 March 2023.
Dynamos clinched maximum points at Chipangano’s expense through a second-half strike by substitute Tinashe Makanda.
Makanda converted a Denver Mukamba pass in the 70th minute, just three minutes after he was introduced.
According to The Sunday Mail, the Glamour Boys missed a lot of chances in the first half they dominated, with Emmanuel Paga, Eli Ilunga, Elvis Moyo and Tendai Matindife all coming close.
Dynamos coach Herbert Maruwa said the team was still a work in progress. He said:
It’s a good start. We were playing away from home but we managed to get a win.
It’s a good result. But it’s still too early to talk about targets.
Meanwhile, PSL champions FC Platinum came from behind to take all three points against Simba Bhora at the National Sports Stadium on Saturday.
Simba Bhora drew first blood through a Ronald Chitiyo strike in the 52nd minute of the match.
However, Pure Platinum Play took all three points after a Juan Mutudza brace in the last 10 minutes.
Saturday’s victory ensured that FC Platinum extended their record Match-Day One wins to nine out of 11 since gaining promotion into the top flight in 2011.
