Al Jazeera Investigations On Zimbabwe Broadcast Postponed Due To "A Technical Issue"

International English-language news channel, Al Jazeera, has postponed the airing of a documentary about alleged corruption and money laundering by Zimbabwean politicians and their associates.

The filming of the four-part documentary was scheduled to start this Thursday at 12 PM Central African Time.

It has since emerged that the film’s broadcast has not happened and this sparked debate on social media, with some commentators speculating that the Qatari-based broadcaster has been paid to “kill the story”.

However, Zimbabwean award-winning journalist and filmmaker Hopewell Chin’ono said Al Jazeera cannot be bought. He tweeted:

I can tell you that Al Jazeera can’t be bought! They have postponed, not shelved their film’s broadcast.

The 4 Zimbabwe films were made by [Al Jazeera Investigations], which is independent of the Al Jaz channel.

An insider said they are sorting out a technical issue.

A snippet of the documentary featuring ZANU PF affiliate and President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s appointed ambassador at large, Uebert Angel has gone viral on social media.

According to NewZimbabwe.com, Angel, a preacher of the prosperity gospel, was dragged to court to answer charges of fraud involving a luxury vehicle worth US$300 000 in 2015.
