Central Vehicle Registry To De-register Unlicensed Vehicles

All vehicles that have not been licensed for a period of two years or more will be automatically de-registered from the Central Vehicle Registry (CVR) Database.

This was said by CVR and the Zimbabwe National Road Administration (ZINARA) in a joint statement issued on Sunday, 19 February. Reads the notice:

The Central Vehicle Registry (CVR) and Zimbabwe National Road Administration (ZINARA) would like to inform the motoring public that all vehicles that have not been licensed for a period of two years or more will be automatically de-registered from the Central Vehicle Registry (CVR) Database.

In terms of The Vehicle Registry and Licensing Act Chapter 13:14 Section 12 Paragraph (c) and (d).

The Registrar-

(c) may, if according to his records, a registered vehicle has not been licensed or exempted for a period exceeding two years; or

(d) may, if he has reasonable grounds for believing that a registered vehicle is no longer required to be registered in terms of Section Six;

Cancel the registration of the vehicle concerned.

ONCE, vehicles have been de-registered, re-registration process will include:

  • Clearance of outstanding vehicle licensing arrears
  • Police clearance
  • Certificate of Roadworthiness from the Vehicle Inspectorate Department (VID)

To avoid de-registration of your vehicles, we appeal to our valued motoring public to comply by ensuring that their vehicles are properly licensed.

Failure to comply will result in the automatic de-registration of your vehicle from the Central Vehicle Registry (CVR) database.

Furthermore, kindly note that using a De-registered vehicle on Zimbabwe’s roads is a criminal offence.

  1. This is an absolutely pointless action. CVR and Zinara will lose every record of these vehicles and when there is sufficient weight of numbers, more motorists will ignore licensing laws. Kenya dropped vehicle licensing many years ago, They added a few cents onto the cost of fuel (which is still cheaper than in Zimbabwe) .

  2. Just another money making scheme. But how can cops check anything when they dont have tablets/wifi and access to records. People will still drive around unlicensed.

  3. I give people period to regularise the licenses renewal and process exemption. Also communicate direct to vehicle owners who are your clients reminding them to renew licenses for both existing and those which are not registered. Go are the days of treating your clients as criminals though you have statutory instrument support at law. Treat your customers nice, thank you.
