MSD Forecasts Light Rains & Drizzle In Some Parts Of Zimbabwe: 2 - 4 Feb 2023

The Meteorological Services Department (MSD) of Zimbabwe has reported that while some parts of the country recorded some rains in recent days, the extreme southern parts of the country were mostly sunny. 

In a weather update seen by Pindula News, MSD forecasted cloudy conditions to be prevalent in most parts of the country with some receiving light rains and drizzle. Reads the weather report and forecast:

ZIMBABWE EVENING WEATHER REPORT AND FORECAST ISSUED AT 1600 HRS THURSDAY 02 FEBRUARY 2023 VALID UNTIL SATURDAY 04 FEBRUARY 2023.

PREAMBLE

The moisture affecting the country resulted in scattered thunderstorms across the country with the highest falls above 20mm on high grounds. Some of the highest rainfall figures measured this morning were Zaka (52mm), Chinhoyi (40mm), Kutsaga (38mm), Chibero (29mm), Nka)i (24mm). Plumtree (23mm) and Kwekwe (23mm). However, the extreme southern parts of the country experienced mostly sunny and warm conditions.

FORECAST FOR TOMORROW FRIDAY 03 FEBRUARY 2023:

Scattered thunderstorms are expected in Matabeleland north, Bulawayo Metropolitan and Matabeleland South provinces, Midlands, Harare Metropolitan, all Mashonaland Provinces and northern parts of Manicaland with localized heavy rains in places. The extreme southern areas namely, Masvingo and southern parts of Manicaland should be mostly sunny during the day with brief cloudy periods and a chance of isolated thunderstorms. Temperatures should range from mild in the morning to warm as the day progresses, throughout the country

• Flooded rivers remain a potential hazard; even if it has not rained heavily in the area, heavy rains may have occurred upstream

• Heavy downpours may give rise to flash flooding leading to treacherous road conditions.

• Lightning is a major threat during this part of the year, being inherent in thundershowers.

ACTIONS TO TAKE

• Avoid crossing rivers or streams of unknown depth; even if it has not rained heavily in the area, it might have done so upstream. 30cm depth of fast-flowing water can sweep away large vehicles.

• Heavy rains may reduce visibility; if driving, please find somewhere safe to park till the rains subside.

• Avoid contact with water or metal objects including farming equipment when lightning is visible, even from a distance. Umbrellas are not safe during storms, raincoats are better, best is to be indoors.

WEATHER OUTLOOK FOR SATURDAY 04 FEBRUAR1 2023:

Matabeleland North, Harare Metropolitan, all Mashonaland Provinces, northern parts of Midlands northern parts of Manicaland, should be cloudy with scattered thunderstorms in places. Warm conditions are anticipated by day becoming mild towards evening. The rest of the country namely Matabeleland South, Bulawayo Metropolitan, southern parts of Midlands, Masvingo and southern part of Manicaland are expected to be briefly cloudy and mild with light rain and drizzle in places.
