Just In: Amos Chibaya And Other CCC Leaders Arrested

Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC)’s Member of Parliament (MP) for Mkoba constituency, Amos Chibaya has been arrested in Harare.

CCC national spokesperson, Fadzayi Mahere posted on Twitter announcing the arrest. Read the tweet seen by Pindula News:

⛔️ALERT: We have received a report that Hon @amos_chibaya has been arrested together with other @CCCZimbabwe members. The charges are unclear at this stage. Details to follow.

She later added:

⛔️ZANU PF abusing the Police Service have stormed the home of Hon Machingauta where an internal @CCCZimbabwe planning meeting was to take place as we lay out our program of action for 2023. ZRP lorries with armed police & teargas are camped at Hon Machingauta’s home.

First it was a violent attack on the home of Sekuru Seremani in Murewa now it’s a violent attack on the home of Hon Machingauta in Budiriro! @ZANUPF_Official must stop attacking the homes of our members. Instead of campaigning on ideas, you terrorise & arrest! Varikukwata!

🟡The @PoliceZimbabwe have arrested our Change Champion, Hon Amos Chibaya & other Change Champions who were attending a private meeting in Harare this morning. They’re currently detained at Budiriro Police Station. The charges are unclear. We demand their immediate release.

The arrests come as the party is calling for the release of Job Sikhala, MP for Zengeza West who has been in prison since June 2022 for allegedly inciting public violence which erupted at the funeral wake of slain CCC activist Moreblessing Ali. 

The party say Sikhala is a political prisoner and is innocent.
