Zimbabwe Weather Report And Forecast: 13 - 15 December 2022

The Meteorological Services Department of Zimbabwe has reported that isolated thunderstorms were recorded in some parts of the country. In a weather report and forecast seen by Pindula News, MSD said it expects afternoon thunderstorms in some parts of the country on Wednesday. Reads a report and forecast for the period 13 -15 December 2022:

PREAMBLE

ZIMBABWE EVENING WEATHER REPORT AND FORECAST ISSUED AT 1600 HRS ON TUESDAY 13 DECEMBER 2022 VALID UNTIL THURSDAY 15 DECEMBER 2022.

Yesterday, isolated thunderstorms occurred in Matabeleland North, northern parts of Matabeleland South, southern parts of Midlands, Mashonaland East and northern parts of Manicaland Provinces. Significant rainfall amounts were recorded in Manicaland Province; Nyanga and Mukandi recorded 49mm and 38mm respectively, All other areas were mostly sunny and hot in the afternoon.

FORECAST FOR TOMORROW, WEDNESDAY 14 DECEMBER 2022

The southern (Matabeleland South and Bulawayo Metropolitan) and northern (Harare Metropolitan, Mashonaland Central, Mashonaland East and Manicaland Provinces) areas are expected to experience afternoon thunderstorms. Other Provinces should be mostly sunny and hot in the afternoon though mild both in the morning and evening.

• Thunderstorms are always associated with lightning, strong winds and hail sometimes which pose danger to crops, animals and people.

• Localised heavier falls may lead to temporary floodings such as flash floods and temporary swelling of streams.

ACTIONS TO TAKE

• If thunder roars seek safe shelter immediately; avoid isolated sheds, unprotected gazebos or picnic shelters; Most lightning strikes occur at the beginning or towards the end of the storm; avoid rushing out until the storm has gone.

• Farmers are advised to insure their crops against losses due to weather hazards like hail, especially tobacco farmers.

• Avoid crossing flooded rivers or swollen streams where water is above your ankles.

• Keep updated weatherwise.

WEATHER OUTLOOK FOR THURSDAY 15 DECEMBER 2022

It should be mostly sunny and mild in the morning with variable winds. Widespread afternoon and evening thunderstorms are anticipated across much of the country with the possibility of isolated heavier falls in excess of 30mm.
