Zimbabwe Weather Report & Forecast: 07 To 09 November 2022

The weather report and forecast issued by the Meteorological Services Department in conjunction with the Department of Civil Protection at 4 PM on Monday 07 November 2022 valid until Wednesday 09 November 2022:

PREAMBLE

The cloud band that resulted in isolated thunderstorms along the eastern parts of the country yesterday, with notable falls recorded in Guruve (17mm), Nyanga (13mm) and Belvedere (11mm), has now moved further eastward.

It was mostly sunny and mild in the morning, and became warm by the afternoon. Meanwhile, another cloud band is drifting into the country through the western provinces.

FORECAST FOR TOMORROW, TUESDAY 08 NOVEMBER 2022 

Morning rain showers are expected in Matabeleland North provinces, Matabeleland South provinces and Bulawayo Metropolitan province.

These should spread to cover much of the country by mid-day, with thunder and lightning in places as well as heavier falls over the Eastern Highlands.

Mild morning conditions are anticipated across the country becoming mostly cloudy and warm by afternoon.

IMPACTS

  • Lightning strikes are a major risk during this period, all areas have a potential risk for lightning strikes.
  • The atmosphere is conducive to localized hailstorms and strong winds.

ACTIONS TO TAKE

  • If caught in the open, please avoid sheltering under isolated trees or in isolated sheds as these tend to be natural lightning conductors.
  • When a thunderstorm threatens, get inside a home or large building,
  • Even when lightning is seen in a distance, it might not be safe to be outdoors. The rough rule of noting the safe zone when you see lightning is the 30-30 Rule: If you see lightning and cannot count up to 30 seconds before you hear thunder, then you are not safe from the next lightning strike.
  • Please secure roof tops and any loose objects that might be blown away by the wind.
  • In case of hailstorms, please be indoors during thunderstorms.
  • Where possible, install lightning conductors on buildings.

WEATHER OUTLOOK FOR WEDNESDAY 09 NOVEMBER 2022

Rain-showers are expected along and to the north of the main watershed (northern parts of the country) during the morning hours becoming less as the day progresses.

However, it may be thundery at times. It should be mild and cloudy in the morning becoming less cloudy and warm by afternoon.

In areas to the south of the main watershed, it is anticipated to be mostly sunny and warm by day thou mild and windy both morning and evening.
