Zimbabwe Weather Report & Forecast: 02 To 04 November 2022

The weather report and forecast issued by the Meteorological Services Department in conjunction with the Department of Civil Protection at 4 PM on Wednesday 02 November 2022 valid until Friday 04 November 2022:

Thunderstorms and rain that occurred in areas along and north of the watershed yesterday as the cloud system swept across the country.

This resulted in the following significant rainfall amounts (in excess of 50mm): 87mm (Victoria falls), 78mm (Macheke), 67mm (Chisengu) and 53mm (Binga).

Areas south of the watershed were more affected by south easterlies; this resulted in drizzle this morning, coupled with suppressed morning temperatures across the country.

However, sunny episodes led to warm day time conditions with isolated showers that were thundery in places.

FORECAST FOR TOMORROW, THURSDAY 03 NOVEMBER 2022 

Cloudy and warm conditions are expected throughout the country with scattered thundershowers along the main watershed. It should be mild in the morning hours and towards evening.

IMPACTS

  • Lightning strikes are a major risk during this period
  • Hot and humid daytime conditions may affect the body’s health, with dehydration and sunburn being common during this period.
  • FIRE SEASON: Dry and hot conditions exacerbate the spread of veldt fires

ACTIONS TO TAKE

  • When thunder roars it is best to be indoors
  • Keep hydrated and avoid prolonged periods in direct sunlight especially between the hours of 10:00 am and 3:00 pm when the sun is at peak intensity.
  • Dress appropriately to keep cool during the day, and ensure vulnerable members of society are not overdressed. Wear a sunhat if you need to be engaged in outdoor activities.
  • The public is urged to avoid starting outdoor fires and safeguard against their spread by constructing fireguards that are maintained free from combustible matter and are at least 9 (nine) meters wide.

Cloudy and warm conditions with scattered thundershowers are anticipated throughout the country. Heavier downpours are expected along the watershed.
