ED's Spokesperson Tells Chamisa To Visit Sikhala In Court, Not At Chikurubi

The Deputy Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet (Presidential Communications), George Charamba, said CCC leader Nelson Chamisa should visit his colleagues Job Sikhala, Godfrey Sithole, and the other 14 CCC activists jailed at Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison at their next court appearance.

Charamba made the remarks after Chamisa was on Thursday denied access to visit his colleagues who have been in pre-trial detention since June.

Posting on Twitter, Charamba said the government will not compromise national security just to please Chamisa. Tweeted Charamba:

Chikurubi Maximum Prison is a high-security zone. We don’t play games with dangerous criminals behind bars.

Be at liberty to meet your inmate friends in the court gallery at their next appearance.

This is standard practice and a much safer way. We don’t compromise national security.

Earlier on, Chamisa was forced to wait at the prison for three hours before prison officers advised him that Justice Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi had instructed to deny him access.

Sikhala, Sithole, and a group of CCC activists were arrested on 14 June 2022 for allegedly inciting violence in Nyatsime in the aftermath of the brutal murder of Moreblessing Ali, a CCC activist. | NewZimbabwe.com
