UK: Liz Truss Tenders Her Resignation To King Charles, Sunak Becomes Prime Minister

Mary Elizabeth “Liz” Truss has tendered her resignation as British Prime Minister and First Lord of Treasury.

The development was announced by the Royal Press which indicated that Truss met with King Charles on Tuesday morning.

The Right Honourable Elizabeth Truss MP had an Audience of The King this morning and tendered her resignation as Prime Minister and First lord of the Treasury, which His Majesty was graciously pleased to accept.

Truss who took over from Johnson barely a month was expected to curb the country’s cost-of-living crisis, industrial unrest and recession.

The state of affairs further deteriorated forcing her to resign after just 44 days in office making her the shortest-serving prime minister in UK history.

Meanwhile, Rishi Sunak has become Britain’s third prime minister within 50 days, after Liz Truss and Boris Johnson were forced to resign.

In his first speech as PM, Sunak promised to unite the nation “facing a profound economic crisis”.

Former British PM Boris Johnson congratulated Rishi Sunak on his appointment as prime minister, urging Tory party members to give Sunak their full support.

French President Emmanuel Macron congratulated Rishi Sunak on becoming the new PM.
