Shun Violence During By-elections - Police

Police have urged political parties to conduct their activities peacefully ahead of six local authority by-elections set for Saturday, 22 October 2022.

The ward-based by-elections will be held in Matobo, Insiza, Guruve, Mutare Central, Buhera and Chirumhanzu.

ZRP’s Senior Staff Officer (Press and Public Relations], Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, reminded political parties that they should shun all forms of violence to ensure that law and order are maintained in the country. He said:

The Zimbabwe Republic Police assures the public that it has adequately deployed Police officers to ensure that the Local Authority By-Elections scheduled for the 22nd of October 2022 in Matobo, Insiza, Guruve, Mutare Central, Buhera and Chirumhanzu are held peacefully.

The Police urge political parties and supporters to conduct their campaigns and activities peacefully to ensure that the voting process will be conducted in a peaceful manner, as outlined by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission.

Political parties must be responsible and shun all forms of violence in order to contribute towards the maintenance of law and order in the country.

Members of the public are implored to report anyone who engages in violence or disregards the electoral rules and regulations at any nearest Police station or contact the National Complaints Desk on (0242) 703631 or WhatsApp 0712 800 197.
