"Chiwenga Should Learn From Phophi Ramathuba"

Health professional and political commentator Setfree Mafukidze says the Minister of Health and Childcare Vice President Constantino Chiwenga should learn from Dr Phophi Ramathuba how to run the public health system.

Phophi Constance Ramathuba is a South African politician and medical doctor and has been the Limpopo MEC for Health and a Member of the Limpopo Provincial Legislature since 2015.

Ramathuba sparked debate in both South Africa and Zimbabwe a few weeks ago when she was filmed saying Zimbabweans were burdening South Africa’s public health system and should “go back to Mnangagwa” in reference to Zimbabwe’s 80-year-old president.

Mafukidze believes Chiwenga has a lot to learn from Ramathuba, not on how to treat sick undocumented foreign nationals, but on how to run the health system.

On Wednesday, opposition Members of Parliament expressed frustration over Chiwenga’s absence from Parliament saying various issues have not been addressed due to the absence.

CCC secretary-general Charlton Hwende (Kuwadzana East) told the National Assembly that he was yet to see Chiwenga in the August House since March and demanded to know if Chiwenga was still in office. Tweeted Mafukidze:

Can someone call General Constantino Guvheya Dominic Nyikadzino Chiwenga and send him to Limpopo Province where he should look for @PhophiRamathuba for assistance on how to make things work in the Health Sector? The Zimbabwean health ministry has no leader in Chiwenga, a disaster.

He was commenting on a post by Ramathuba that announced the commissioning of radiology screening and diagnostic equipment in Sekhukhune.

Ramathuba shared pictures of the high-tech equipment which she had just commissioned and captioned them with the words:

Done with decentralization of radiology screening and diagnostic high-tech equipment. Patients from Sekhukhune won’t travel to Polokwane anymore.

Our next stop is to decentralize renal services to rural hospitals in our districts, watch the space because to us Rural health matters.
