Building Owners, Corporates, Govt Institutions Mandated To Have Steel Litter Bins - Harare

Harare City Council (HCC) has said building owners, including corporates and government institutions, are mandated to have steel litter bins.

A statement seen by Pindula News cites the Harare Anti-Litter By-Law Statutory Instrument (S.I.) 158/86. Reads the statement:

PUBLIC NOTICE

City of Harare would like to advise building owners, corporates, Government institutions and other stakeholders that under Harare Anti-Litter By-Law Si. 158/86, it is mandatory for every building to have three colour-coded steel litter bins at their premises. The bins should be clearly labelled for degradable, renewable and glass materials.

Meanwhile, the local government authority has often been accused of failing or neglecting to collect garbage from residential areas.

This has resulted in the mushrooming of undesignated dumpsites.
