Police Officer, 6 Other Suspects Arrested Over Murder Of Marondera Businessman
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has arrested 7 suspects including a police officer stationed at Rhodesville in Harare over the murder of a Marondera businessman during a robbery on Friday 23 September 2022.
The assailants pounced on Lucas Chimoka at his residence in Paradise Park, Marondera on Friday at around 0200 hours, robbed him of US$7 900 and killed him.
A source who spoke to Pindula News said the arrests were effected last night (26 September 2022).
In an earlier statement seen by Pindula News, ZRP the suspects were armed with an unidentified pistol, iron bars, and spears.
They attacked the family before robbing them of US$7 910, a cellphone, and killing Chimoka.

Meanwhile, some members of the public who responded to the arrest of the suspects expressed concern over the rise in robbery cases by members of the uniformed forces. One commentator said:
It’s always the army details and police details in these robberies.
Some suggested that the rise in criminal activities reflected the collapse of the Zimbabwean economy.
Over the years, police officers have often been accused of corruption, especially at roadblocks where they demand bribes from motorists who would be violating road and traffic regulations.
