Harare Water Delivery Update

Harare City Council (HCC) has issued an update on water delivery as the water crisis continues in the capital.

In a statement seen by Pindula News, the local government authority said they had pumped into Mabvuku, Greendale and Msasa Park yesterday (26 September 2022) and they currently have water. Further reads the statement:

Areas around the CBD, Avenues, Mt Pleasant and Vainona currently have supplies. We are pumping into Highlands Reservoirs and Hatcliffe will also be receiving water. Waterfalls and Hatfield have water supplies albeit with low pressure. Areas around Glen Norah and Glen View will receive water today while Dzivaresekwa and Mabelreign will start receiving water late Wednesday. Budiriro will receive water Thursday.

Harare’s perennial water challenges worsened last month when the local government authority shut down Morton Jaffray waterworks citing “unprecedented chemical supply challenges.”

The city fathers cite the economic decay; perennial droughts affecting Lake Chivero, which is dammed to supply Harare with water; the lack of maintenance of the old water infrastructure; the inability to procure the necessary chemicals to treat water sources, as causes of the water problem.
