ZESA Announces Increased Nationwide Load-shedding

The Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company, a subsidiary of the Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA) has announced increased nationwide load-shedding starting on the 24th of September. A statement seen by Pindula News says the southern African country’s power generators experienced technical challenges while imports remain limited. Reads the statement:

NOTICE OF LOADSHEDDING: NATIONWIDE

Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company ( ZETDC) would like to advise its valued customers that there is increased load curtailment from the 24th of September 2022. This is due to technical challenges being experienced at our Kariba and Hwange Power Stations as well as import constraints. The utility is therefore conducting a maintenance exercise to ensure full restoration of service.

The inconvenience caused is sincerely regretted.

Zimbabwe’s power crisis resurfaced in 2019 ushering the country into darkness.

The country’s power-generating capacity is 1 400 megawatts, but the projected national peak demand is 2 400 megawatts.

Zimbabwe imports some electricity from South Africa and Mozambique, nevertheless, imports are not enough to cover the deficit.

Some companies have been resorting to expensive diesel generators to continue operating. Some have installed power systems and are even selling the surplus to the state.
