Electrical Fault, Flammables Blamed For Fire At Glen View Home Industry
Carpenters at Glen View Home Industry Complex along Willowvale Road in Harare suspect that an electrical fault may have caused the fire that broke out on Wednesday night and destroyed furniture worth thousands of dollars.
According to eyewitnesses, the inferno was ignited by an electrical spark near some storage containers stocked with material cloth, paints and thinners, all flammable substances, before it spread.
Glen View 8 Management Committee chairperson, Claudius Mutongwizo, has called for carpenters to desist from storing flammable substances under the sheds to prevent fires in future. He said:
I think we need to desist from using flammable building materials such as plastics and wood in constructing our shed.
We also need fire guards and fire points so that if a fire is to break out then those on the ground can fight out a fire using these whilst waiting for fire tenders.

One of the affected carpenters, Clever Makatare, appealed to the government to assist them financially to recover from the fire. Said Makatare:
We appeal to the government to intervene in this catastrophe and assist us financially so that we can build again.
Government representatives often visit to inquire about what we need and we ask them to come again during this crisis and extend a helping hand.
Since 2015, a total of nine (9) fire incidents have occured at the Glen View Home Industry Complex and most of the time the fires start at night.
