Baba Manyeruke (80) Attributes His Longevity To Obeying God, Physical Exercise

Legendary gospel musician Baba Mechanic Manyeruke has attributed his long life to living in obedience to God and following his commandments.

Manyeruke, who is one of the pioneers of gospel music in Zimbabwe, celebrated his 80th birthday on 16 August. He said:

Eighty years is not a joke, I really thank God for these fruitful years.

For it is not by my power or intelligence but it is the will of the Lord.

All I can say is as we live here on earth, we should abide by the commandments of the Lord, and obey His voice and orders.

We obey the Lord’s voice by following what His word says.

Baba Manyeruke also said he had managed to remain fit through exercise. He said:

I usually exercise twice a week. After meals, I take time to jog around my yard and, after that, I always freshen up.

In his birthday message, the veteran musician advised young people to honour their parents and desist from taking illegal drugs. He said:

There is no way we can manage to obey God if we don’t honour our parents.

It is my advice to the young generation that they should be obedient, faithful and, above all, respect their parents.

We need to attract our parents’ blessings first in order to be prosperous in everything that we do.

Youngsters should also desist from abusing drugs.

Seriously, the moment you start abusing drugs, already your lifespan will definitely be short.

It’s never too late for all drug addicts to quit drugs and lead a normal life.

Meanwhile, Manyeruke is set to perform at “Dare Guru”, a high-profile gospel show on 3 September at Harare Gardens.

Other gospel musicians expected to grace the event include Mathias Mhere, Fungisai Zvakavapano, Zolasko, Mambo Dhuterere and Mai Patai.

The event runs from 1 PM to sunset.
