Bindura Teen Dies Mysteriously After Killing Mum Hours Earlier

A 19-year-old man from Bindura died under unclear circumstances on Wednesday hours after he had fatally stabbed his own mother.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said Regis Ruza fatally stabbed his mother Dorcas Chigudhu (55) on the thigh with a kitchen knife.

Ruza, who allegedly appeared mentally unstable when he committed the heinous crime, then locked himself in a toilet. Said Asst Comm Nyathi:

The ZRP is investigating a murder case which occurred at Trojan Mine, Bindura where Regis Ruza (19) allegedly attacked his mother, Dorcas Chigudhu (55) and fatally stabbed her once on the thigh with a kitchen knife before locking himself in a toilet on 10/08/22.

The suspect, who seemed mentally disturbed, was taken to Bindura Hospital where he was treated and discharged into Police custody.

On the same date at around 2000 hours the suspect got unconscious and was referred back to Bindura hospital where he was pronounced dead on admission.

The body has since been taken to Bindura Hospital mortuary for post-mortem.

In an unrelated incident, police said an 18-month-old baby was burnt to death on Sunday after a Ford Ranger vehicle she was playing in caught fire. Police said:

On 07/08/22, ZRP Kenzamba recorded a sudden death case where a female infant aged 18 months was burnt by fire in a Ford Ranger vehicle after the father left the infant playing with her brother aged seven in the unlocked car in Musoka Village.

The brother left the infant alone in the car and later saw smoke coming out of the vehicle. The father rescued the infant, who was seated in the burning driver’s seat.

Unfortunately, she passed on while admitted at Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital.
