ZIMBABWE EVENING WEATHER REPORT AND FORECAST ISSUED AT 1600 HRS ON WEDNESDAY 10 AUGUST 2022 VALID UNTIL FRIDAY 12 AUGUST 2022.
PREAMBLE
Slight advection of moisture from the south-east of the sub-continent led to cloudy, windy and cool morning conditions in districts such as Beitbridge, Chiredzi, Chipinge, and Chimanimani as well as Gweru, Mberengwa and Bubi.
All other areas were cool at first with mostly clear skies and became warm by midday.
FORECAST FOR TOMORROW, THURSDAY 11 AUGUST 2022
Clear skies are expected countrywide with haze in places such as Hwange, Zvishavane and Kezi. All areas should be cool at first becoming warm by afternoon.
IMPACTS
- Vegetation is becoming drier and more susceptible to run away veldt fires.
- It is becoming warmer over much of the country and slightly more conducive to dehydration in vulnerable members of the society,
- Overnight conditions are becoming less chilly
ACTIONS TO TAKE
- High fire-danger season is upon us and all members of the society, especially farmers, are encouraged to construct fire-guards at least 9 metres wide to safeguard their property.
- All farmers (urban and rural) are urged to reduce the amount of grass on their farms and residential properties through hay baling, thatch, and broom grass harvesting as a fire prevention measure.
- The public is reminded not to start any outdoor fires: these tend to spread easily during this season.
- Antihistamines, respirators or inhalers should be on standby for those prone to respiratory illnesses. School children are urged to wear a mask, and always maintain social distance at school and play.
- It is a perfect time to go game viewing in the various National Parks and Wildlife Sanctuaries countrywide as animals converge at watering holes.
- The weather is also excellent for outdoor activities and sports as well as camping, with the night sky being clear to observe the different colours of stars.
