Details Of How Ximex Mall Dealer Took Poison Revealed

Harare Ximex Mall dealer, Tafadzwa Murengwa, alias Boss Pangolin, who last week shot and killed his former girlfriend, drank a pesticide after police had found him locked inside a car in Shawasha Hills, it has emerged.

Police detectives received information that Murengwa had sought refuge at a house in Shawasha Hills after he shot and killed Samantha Dzapata along Simon Mazorodze Road on Friday morning.

The detectives found him at the house at around 10 PM in the driver’s seat and ordered him to leave the vehicle.

Murengwa reportedly took his time and only emerged five minutes later after he had taken the poisonous substance, a pesticide used in farming.

The Herald reported a police source as saying when police detectives approached Murengwa, he locked himself inside his grey unregistered Toyota Aqua before they ordered him to open the doors but he did not comply. Said the source:

He later opened the left front passenger door after about five minutes and collapsed on the ground. He had froth coming out of his mouth.

A search was conducted inside the vehicle upon which an empty container of the insecticide was recovered behind the front passenger seat.

Further searches were carried out and a .38 Webley revolver loaded with four spent cartridges was recovered under the driver’s seat.

A silver Apple laptop, an iPhone cellphone, a small black bag with R5 030, US$827, bank card, bail slip in respect of the accused person and receipt of Beforward Zimbabwe for cash purchase of a Mercedes Benz unknown type was also recovered under the same seat.

Murengwa was taken to Parirenyatwa Hospital where he died on admission.

On Monday, police said they were yet to establish the original owner of the gun that Murengwa used to kill Samantha.

Murengwa shot and killed Samantha while she was in the company of her sister who was only identified as Cathy.

Samantha was on her way to Highlands Police Station to make another domestic violence report against Murengwa.

While the two siblings were walking along Simon Mazorodze Road, Murengwa suddenly appeared and shot Samantha once on the head before speeding off.

Reports indicate that Murengwa and Samantha had been in love since 2019 and travelled to Victoria Falls where they engaged early this year.

Samantha, who worked in Beitbridge for the NGO, CeSHHAR had recently ended the four-year relationship citing emotional and physical abuse by Murengwa.

  1. How can a gun be loaded with spent cartridges? Is it a typo error or sheer ignorance by the reporter or misinformation by the police?
