Three Bulawayo Accident Victims’ Bodies Unidentified - Police

Police in Bulawayo have appealed to members of the public to help in the identification of the bodies of three people who died in an accident along Nketa Drive near Tshabalala high-density suburb on Tuesday last week.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson in Bulawayo Province, Inspector Abednico Ncube, on Thursday said three deceased bodies were still unidentified at the UBH mortuary. He said:

Bodies of a fatal accident which occurred along Nketa Drive on Tuesday are still unclaimed at United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) mortuary pending positive identification by relatives.

Police are seeking assistance from the public to positively identify the bodies of the three people who died in the accident which happened along Nketa Drive near the high-density suburb of Tshabalala as they did not have any form of identification on them.

The deceased’s remains include a three-month-old baby. They were ferried to UBH for post-mortem.

Meanwhile, six people who survived the accident were seriously injured and taken to UBH for medical assistance.

What happened: Inspector Ncube said the accident was a result of human error and he implored “mushikashika” drivers to exercise caution on the roads. He said:

Sandile Dlamini (27) of Nketa was driving a Honda Fit along Nketa Drive with six passengers on board and had a head-on collision with Sipho Magutshwa (29) of Nketa, Bulawayo, who was driving a Nissan Elgrand with two passengers on board.

The circumstances leading to the accident are that Dlamini tried to overtake another vehicle without due care, resulting in a head-on collision with Magutshwa who was driving along the same road due north.

We urge motorists, especially Honda Fit mshikashika drivers, not to overload their vehicles and exercise extreme caution on our roads so as to avoid unnecessary loss of life.

We also warn these pirate taxis not to compete on the roads as they put people’s lives at risk.
