ZIMBABWE EVENING WEATHER REPORT AND FORECAST ISSUED AT 1600 HRS ON FRIDAY 08 JULY 2022 VALID UNTIL SUNDAY 10 JULY 2022

PREAMBLE

There were clear skies countrywide early this morning. This resulted in slight ground frost at Matapos, Gweru, Henderson, and Masvingo.

FORECAST FOR TOMORROW, SATURDAY 09 JULY 2022

It is expected to be mostly sunny with calm winds in most areas. Brief cloudy periods should prevail in Matabeleland South, southern areas of Midlands, Masvingo and Manicaland Provinces.

Daytime conditions should be mild though cold in the morning and towards evening.

Ground frost is anticipated in frost-prone areas (Nyanga, Henderson, Masvingo, Gweru Matopos and Kezi).

IMPACTS

  • Poultry producers should note that broilers are sensitive to temperature variations
  • Crops may be affected by ground frost in frost-prone areas.
  • Cold mornings and evenings may affect the body’s health, with colds, influenza, and fever, as well as asthma, being common.
  • The wind factor and current dry vegetative state increase the propagation of veldt fires.

ACTIONS TO TAKE

  • Dress appropriately to keep warm especially overnight.
  • If braziers are to be used to keep warm, please ensure the room is well ventilated as these have the potential of causing carbon monoxide poisoning.
  • Poultry producers should check temperature levels regularly and adjustments made to reduce bird mortality and increase productivity.
  • Consider frost mitigation measures such as irrigating overnight.
  • Do not start any open and uncontrolled fires as these may lead to the destruction of flora and fauna.

OUTLOOK: WEATHER FORECAST FOR SUNDAY 10 JULY 2022

Mostly clear skies and cold morning conditions are expected in most areas with some scattered clouds developing in all Mashonaland Provinces and Harare Metropolitan Provinces. It should be mild in the afternoon.

Ground frost is expected in susceptible areas (Nyanga, Henderson, Masvingo, Gweru Matopos and Kezi).
