Jonathan Moyo Mocks Chamisa Over Divine Endorsement Remarks

Exiled former ZANU PF politburo member Jonathan Moyo has mocked CCC leader Nelson Chamisa for suggesting that God has endorsed him as Zimbabwe’s next president.

Chamisa made the remarks while addressing scores of mourners at the burial of the late constitutional law expert and academic Alex Tawanda Magaisa in Mangisi Village, Chikomba District in Wedza, Mashonaland East Province on Tuesday.

In a post on Twitter this Wednesday, Moyo reminded Chamisa that God does not vote in local elections. Moyo wrote:

Chamisa says the heavens have endorsed him to lead, “I’m going to lead, no doubt about that, the heavens have endorsed me”.

Zim political discourse is something else. Even God is a voter!

Moyo has of late been criticising Chamisa and CCC for failing to set up party structures and not holding an elective congress before the 2023 harmonised elections.

The former information minister has gone as far as saying CCC is a secret society that is a threat to national security and should not be allowed to contest elections.

Chamisa has, however, pushed back at calls for his party to establish structures. He said, recently:

I hear some say we do not have structures, but no we are reading the game.

We know we are dealing with a delinquent player but when you are dealing with a delinquent player you do not take advice from their coach.

Did you hear what I said? We know what we are doing, let us go for elections and you will finally realise that.

Last year, Moyo unsuccessfully sought to be made MDC Alliance advisor and strategist and even offered to train 40 000 polling agents for the party ahead of next year’s elections.

CCC supporters view Moyo with suspicion considering his role in constricting the democratic space in the country right up to the night he fled the country at the height of the November 2017 military coup.
