South Africa Scraps Wearing Of Face Masks, COVID-19 Regulations On People Entering SA, Gatherings

South Africa’s Health Minister, Joe Phaahla has announced the repealing of regulations on the wearing of face masks. Under Government Notice 2060 promulgated on 4 May 2022, members of the public entering and being inside an indoor public place were required to wear a face mask. No person was allowed to use any form of public transport if they were not wearing a face mask. Section 16B of the Notice regulated gatherings while 16C regulated persons entering South Africa to contain the spread of COVID-19. In the latest review of COVID-19 regulations, Phaahla said Notice 2060 had been repealed. This followed a decline in COVID-19 cases and deaths in recent weeks. Phaahla said:

NATIONAL HEALTH ACT, 2003

The repeal of the Regulations concerned will come into operation on publication in the Gazette.
