Police Issues Statement On The Rise Of Murder Cases

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has expressed concern over murder and attempted murder curses across the country. Cases recorded in the recent past have been attributed to various causes. Reads a statement issued by Police national spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi:

CONCERN OVER MURDER AND ATTEMPTED MURDER CASES AROUND THE COUNTRY

The Zimbabwe Republic Police is concerned with cases of murder and attempted murder where knives, machetes, axes and other weapons are being used to settle disputes. Most of these cases are leading to loss of lives with some of the cases being committed by close people like friends, lovers and relatives at beer binges.

On 12th June 2022, ZRP Filabusi received a report of a murder which occurred on 11th June 2022 at a bottle store at Mavhangwe Shopping Centre. The suspect, Newman Mafu (23) waylaid Nkosana Dube (25) and Mehluli Ntokozo Nkala (26) before stabbing them with a knife on the chest and back respectfully. Earlier, the suspect had accused Nkosana Dube of giving him little money which they had realised after selling gold. Nkosana Dube was later found dead, lying in a pool of blood on 12th June 2022, with a knife stab in the chest.

Meanwhile, on 12th June 2022, ZRP Shamva recorded a case of murder in which a 24-year-old man only known as Diva was fatally attacked by a group of machete-wielding gang, led by one Joseph Mutaiki (No further particulars known) at an open space in Wadzanai Suburb, Shamva.

The victim, who sustained serious injuries, succumbed to the injuries on admission at Shamva District Hospital on 13th June 2022.

Similarly, on 13th June 2022, ZRP Mkwasine recorded a murder case which occurred on 2nd June 2022 at Chipimbi Compound, Mkwasine, Chiredzi, where a suspect, Respect Dube (26) struck his friend, Khosi Majuta once on the head with a burning log after a misunderstanding over a knife. The victim died on 13th June 2022 while admitted at Masvingo Provincial Hospital. The accused person has since appeared before Chiredzi Magistrate Court where he was remanded in custody.

On 12th June 2022, Police in Kwekwe arrested Colleen Putse (21) and Morris Banda (24) in connection with a case of attempted murder which occurred in Zhombe when the two suspects stabbed the complainant, Leanmore Mwazha (29) once on the stomach with a knife and struck him on the head with an empty bottle over an unknown issue at a beer binge.

On 13th June 2022 at around 0200 hours, two complainants, Reason Ncube (30) and Richard Hwinya (24) were attacked by four unknown suspects while drinking beer at Mbizo 4 Shopping Centre. One of the complainants was struck once on the head with an empty bottle, while another was stabbed once on the neck and abdomen with a knife.

In another attempted murder case, a 32-year-old Chegutu man, Antony Costa Maruva (32) was found lying in a pool of blood after he was struck twice on the head and once on the left leg with an axe by a suspect, only identified as Tichaona Kasera. Police have since recovered the axe used in the commission of the crime and are appealing for information which may lead to the arrest of the suspect.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police urges communities to live in harmony and always strive to resolve differences in a peaceful manner. The Police will ensure that the law takes its course on anyone who does not respect the sanctity of human life.
