Mutodi Quits Goromonzi West Constituency

Energy Mutodi has decided to quit the Goromonzi West constituency and will not contest for the seat in 2023.

Mutodi has since transferred from ZANU PF Mashonaland East Province to ZANU PF Masvingo Province.

The musician and former Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Deputy Minister made the announcement at a rally held in Goromonzi recently.

The meeting was attended by senior party officials from the province.

ZANU PF Masvingo provincial spokesperson Tatenda Mavetera confirmed the development. Said Mavetera:

In Goromonzi West, it emerged that Honourable Mutodi mentioned that he is no longer contesting to be MP in 2023.

He bid farewell to his constituency a long time back but should finish his term as the elected MP for Goromonzi West.

Mutodi is now a provincial member in Masvingo province but some ZANU PF members are reportedly frustrating his efforts to be admitted into the party structures.

In the 2018 elections, Mutodi narrowly won in Goromonzi West against the then Nelson Chamisa-led MDC Alliance after the opposition party fielded two candidates, Clifford Nhamburo and Luke Tamborinyoka.

Tamborinyoka won more than 6 000 votes while Namburo garnered more than 10 000 votes.

Their combined votes would have been enough to win the seat for the MDC Alliance.
