ZimRights Calls For Investigation Into The Killing Of Moreblessing Ali

The Zimbabwe Human Rights Association (ZimRights) has urged the Government to investigate the murder of CCC activist Moreblessing Ali, who was abducted by suspected ZANU PF activists on 24 May only for his mutilated remains to be retrieved from a well in Manyame on 11 June.

In a statement issued this Sunday, 12 June, ZimRights demanded that the perpetrators of the heinous crime be brought to justice. Reads the statement:

The Zimbabwe Human Rights Association (ZimRights) is deeply saddened at the tragic news that Moreblessing Ali, who has been missing since 24 May 2022, has been found dead.

Moreblessing was a member of the Citizen Coalition for Change (CCC). Our deepest condolences to the Ali family and friends.

It is suspected that Moreblessing was murdered. The Ali family lawyer Hon. Job Sikhala reported that Moreblessing’s mutilated body was found in a shallow well in Nyatsime on 11 June 2022.

ZimRights condemns this gruesome act and calls upon the government of Zimbabwe to institute a thorough investigation into the disappearance and death of Moreblessing Ali. Perpetrators of this act must be brought to justice.

The family and friends of Moreblessing deserve to know the truth as to what happened to Moreblessing and why.

They, together with the whole nation, deserve to see the perpetrators of this barbaric act brought to justice.

Zimbabwe, as a member of the family of nations, must not continue on a path in which citizens are disappeared and murdered with impunity.

Every Zimbabwean citizen has the right to life, personal security, human dignity, liberty and the right to participate in the political affairs of their country.

They have the right to associate and dissociate with whomsoever they wish. They must not be killed for doing so.

ZimRights calls upon the law enforcement agents in Zimbabwe to provide answers as to the disappearance and death of Moreblessing as soon as possible.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Ali family as they are confronted with this tragedy.

May her soul rest in peace. May justice visit those responsible for her death swiftly.
