This morning, it was cloudy, windy and cold over the southern and eastern areas with light drizzle reported at Marondera. However, slight ground frost occurred at West Nicholson, Kezi and Matopos. The rest of the country had clear skies and cold morning conditions.
FORECASTS FOR TOMORROW SATURDAY, 04 JUNE 2022
Matabeleland South, southern areas of Midlands, Masvingo, Manicaland, Mashonaland East and Harare Metropolitan Provinces are expected to be cloudy, windy and cold in the morning, becoming less cloudy and cool by the afternoon. All other areas (Matabeleland North, Bulawayo Metropolitan Province, northern areas of Midlands as well as Mashonaland Central and West Provinces) should have mostly clear skies with windy and mild daytime conditions, though cold in the morning and evening.
IMPACTS
• Ground frost may affect some crops and even poultry, especially in Matopos and Kezi as well as Henderson.
• Cold conditions, coupled with the wind factor may affect the body’s health, with common colds, influenza and fever, as well as asthma, being common.
• Cold mornings and drizzle may affect outdoor activities, especially in the eastern Highlands.
ACTIONS TO TAKE
• Farmers in areas prone to ground frost should undertake frost prevention measures such as overhead irrigation of crops usually at night /early in the morning.
• Poultry producers should note that broilers are sensitive to temperature variations and therefore need to be checked regularly and adjustments made.
• Keeping warm is important for everyone to avoid catching a cold. For expert advice on preventative and redemptive measures for colds and flu, please consult your local health practitioner
• Some may opt to use braziers to keep warm; however, this should be done in well-ventilated areas/rooms as it leads to carbon monoxide poisoning.
