A teenager from Chivhu died on admission at Chivhu General Hospital on Saturday after his friend lost control and crashed a car he had taken from his parents without permission.
The deceased, Tichaona Dengu (17), had allegedly asked Talent Chamunorwa (20) to help him ferry some bricks for a fee.
The Sunday Mail reports that Chamunorwa then took his parents’ car without their authorisation.
There were four people on board, with the others hired to help load the bricks.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Mashonaland East spokesperson Inspector Simon Chazovachiyi confirmed the accident. He told The Sunday Mail:
On May 28, 2022, at around 2pm, Chamunorwa was driving a Mazda pick-up along a street in Skyview with four passengers on board.
He lost control of the vehicle, which veered off the road to the left, hit a tree and overturned several times before landing on its wheels.
The accident happened near Chivhu shops, and the bricks were supposed to be ferried from Skyview to Chivhu Town.
The driver and other passengers were injured, while Dengu died upon admission at Chivhu General Hospital after sustaining head injuries.
