Payment Of License Fees 2022: ZERA Speaks On Acceptable Exchange Rate

The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) has announced that the payment of license fees and any other fees should be done using the rate of exchange established through the Willing-Buyer Willing-Seller exchange rate system. In a statement, seen by Pindula News, the authority said the move is meant to restore macroeconomic stability. Reads the statement:

PAYMENT OF LICENSE FEES 2022

Following the announcement of measures to restore confidence, preserve value and restore macroeconomic stability by Government, the Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) wishes to advise relevant stakeholders that payment or remittance of license fees and any other fees should be done (where applicable) using the rate of exchange established through the Willing-Buyer Willing-Seller exchange rate system.

This is happening when the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ)‘s exchange is behind the black market rate by a huge margin.

Many people were preferring to use the local currency for payment of goods and services provided by government institutions since it would be cheaper.

Last week, the foreign exchange weighted average rate fell to US$1: ZWL$290.8876 from US$1: ZWL$258.5404 while it is around US$1: ZWL$400 on the parallel market.

Some say the parallel market was the more realistic and businesses are pricing their commodities using the black market rate.

  1. The exchange rate will only worsen and it’s a safe bet the zwl / zwd or whatever will be dead well before the year is out. There’s no hope whatsoever of improvement on that side, auction or a fixed rate. Hang onto your USD’s and pay local and national govt in the zwl, unless there’s no way around it. Another idea: Try and get some viable, credible opposition to zpf lined up and raring to go, whilst telling stupid, greedy idiots to wind their necks in, if they don’t happen to be allocated a seat, and get with the change programme! It might help if those “polling agents” actually did something to prevent rigging as well, instead of sitting there, like spastics in a fairground, watching it going on, unless of course, they’re in on it! It wouldn’t surprise me if they were, but then very little does now.

  2. Hugh Jarse….. come on …… why do you wish zwl/zwd to be dead by then? Are you happy when people are suffering? whose interest are you serving……. you all about yourself……………is there a need for you to shout at polling agents…… what do you want them to do….. be realistic , come on…..every body can not serve your interest….
