Police Raise Concern Over Continued Rise Of Murder Cases

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has expressed concern over the rise of murder cases across the country.

ZRP national spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said most of the murder cases emanate from family disputes and urged citizens to resolve their disputes amicably to avoid loss of lives. He said:

It is so sad that we are witnessing a surge in the number of murder cases countrywide. We are recording more than 10 murder cases weekly and we want to encourage people to resolve their disputes amicably. We are also calling traditional leaders who include village or kraal heads and chiefs to assist families and associates to resolve differences in a peaceful manner. As police, we continue to conduct awareness campaigns countrywide.

Some of the recently reported murder cases include:

i). A Chatsworth case that occurred on 12 May in which Pererai Mugure of Chikerema Village assaulted his 16-year old daughter to death after trying to refrain him from assaulting her mother.

ii). Chegutu Man Who Was Jailed For Murdering His Wife Following A Dispute Over A Road Runner Chicken
